Celebrate Christmas with a pretend play Filipino Christmas market.
My memories of Simbang Gabi include colorful Christmas markets outside the church. They sell lots of yummy Filipino treats like bibingka and puto bumbong. The air smells so good, and you can hear happy songs. These markets bring everyone together to enjoy the festive season. It’s a special tradition that combines the joy of Simbang Gabi with delicious Filipino food.
To preserve the Filipino tradition for my kids, I’ve arranged a Christmas market stall adorned with vibrant parols. I’ve added a touch of common Filipino delicacies made from felt and homemade playdough. To keep the money, we use a pot; however, in the Philippines, tradition involves using arinolas or chamber pots. The use of arinolas to keep money is often associated with the belief that these chamber pots bring good luck. This cultural practice reflects the intertwining of traditional beliefs and practicality, creating a unique blend of symbolism and functionality in everyday life.
